MacOS 7.6+ Dialup Instructions

These instructions only support systems 7.6 and up WITH PPP and Open Transport only!

If you are unsure what system you have, click on the apple and open "About this Macintosh" or "About this Computer". This will tell you what version of the operating system you have. To make sure Open Transport/PPP is installed, open your extensions manager and look for PPP and Open Transport Library.

The entire dialup process can be broken down into three basic sections, the first two are one-time-only setup requirements. The final section is the actual signing on process.

Section 1: TCP/IP

  • From the apple menu, select Control Panels, and click on TCP/IP
  • Where it says Connect Via: Make sure PPP is selected.
  • Enter "204.214.90.3" for the name server address
  • Close and save.

Section 2: PPP

OS 7.6 to 8.1 From the apple menu, select the control panels, and click on PPP. OS 8.1 to 8.6 From the apple menu, select the control panels, and click on Remote Access. Select Registered User for connection. If you don't want to type your password in every time you connect, check the box to save your password.

Click on the options button at the bottom of the menu. Select the protocol tab. Use the pull-down menu to select the PPP protocol. Check the box for "Allow error correction and compression in modem." Check the box for "Allow TCP Header Compression." Click OK

Section 3:  Connecting

At this point you should be back to the initial PPP menu and click on connect.  From now on, you only have to go to this initial menu.

You should now be connected
Make sure to disconnect when finished.
